In 1760, completed Maulbertsch frescoes of the domes of the former Jesuit church in the divided town of Komarno today on the Slovak-Hungarian border. These have already been damaged by an earthquake in 1763, restored by Johann Lucas Kracker in 1770 and finally painted over in the 19th century. The themes of the frescoes, but also the authorship of Maulbertsch, however, are passed down through the Jesuit annals from the year 1760th Here, the description of the fifth and final dome with our paintings is consistent, where in addition to the protagonists - the surrounding scenes are explained - the St. Ignatius and Francis Xavier: "... barbaric nations that are called by their kings to believe idols by heavenly fire consumed or broken down battled monsters of heresy. " In the sketch, the described side scenes are certainly not formulated exactly, but despite the factory preparatory function of this image remains in its reduced color of the most important clue to the appearance of the fresco. In the center of the composition, the founder of the Order of the Jesuits, St. located. Ignatius of Loyola, standing on a split globe and points with his left hand on the book with the rules of the order. It is highlighted by the glaring light emanating from the eye of God and brightens the picture. To his right is St. To see Francis Xavier, the great Jesuit missionary. Left in the picture represent the flags bearing angels and lightning which strikes the heretics, the militant, anti-paganism aspirations of the church.
