Od ok. Od 1770 roku modne stało się pokrywanie ścian pomieszczeń malowanymi draperiami. Dzięki swoim idyllicznym scenom mogliby przekształcić pokój w domu nad kanałem w oazę. Te trzy obrazy (wraz z kilkoma brakującymi) przedstawiały ciągły holenderski krajobraz, przerywany jedynie boazerią, oknami i drzwiami pokoju.
